I gathered photographs of my grandparents and other elders as the main focus of my ancestral altar. To that I have added a large candle as a symbol of Great Spirit, a small clay pot filled with sand and small candles (which I will light during a ceremony I will do later). I have arranged some gifts that treasured family members have given me over the years. This will bring a very meaningful energy to my altar.

I have also placed some feathers on my altar in honor of my Native American heritage. Placing an item on your altar that symbolizes your cultural heritage can have a strong influence on the subconscious and give more meaning and power to the sacred space you are creating honoring your ancestors.

Your altar will provide you with a space for thanking your ancestral teachers such as grandparents and other elders, who have forged a spiritual path ahead of you and in whose footsteps you follow. My grandmother was such a person for me.
