Altar to the Grandmothers The number of objects in a group, colors, textures and the objects themselves all have meaning when creating an altar. Creating an altar to the Grandmothers is very rewarding. If you’ve ever wanted to do something special for your grandmother, creating an altar to her and all grandmothers is the ultimate gift. For my altar to the Grandmothers I used 3 candles, 2 white and 1 lavender, my grandmother’s favorite color. A group of 3 objects on any altar symbolizes the trinity; mind, body and spirit. Any altar you build can you serve you best with at least one grouping of 3 objects. Altars speak to our mind, body and spirit. The candles are a symbol of light. Grandmothers have a way of shining light in the dark areas of our lives. My grandmother could cheer me up no matter what was bothering me. Included on my altar is a teacup full of chamomile. Chamomile is a perfect symbol for my grandmother as she was very soothing and calming, just like the chamomile tea we reach for to soothe us during stressful times. There is a Rose Quartz obelisk sitting on a round mirror. Rose Quartz, as a symbol of love and caring is reflected by the mirror as a reminder to me to always reflect love and caring out into the world. Rose Quartz is another symbol that helps to explain a grandmother’s love. The other items on my altar are symbols that remind me of grandmothers such as doilies, pearls, a glove, flowers and an old book. Dedicate your altar with a ceremony to invoke energy into your altar. The energy from this altar can positively affect your life and all areas of your home. As you speak your invocation light the candles on your altar. Here is an invocation you can use. Please feel free to adapt it to your own personal liking. May Great Spirit who dwells in all things bestow blessings on this home and family. May this altar constantly remind us of the grandmothers and the Divine that dwells in all things. May love, joy, peace and abundance fill this home now. Now, lift your teacup to yourself, if the high heel fits, in honor of the grandmother that you are or are about to become. I bow in honor to you. |
